Morocco’s ‘Extraordinary Journey’ at 2022 World Cup

Despite losing to France on Wednesday night, Morocco’s performances in Qatar have inspired and galvanized many across the world.

Rabat – Emmanuel Macron has joined world leaders in making admiring comments about Morocco’s national team, hailing its “extraordinary journey” at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In a statement to the press at the end of the Morocco vs France semi-final, Macron congratulated Moroccans on having a “great team.”

“They have made an extraordinary journey in this World Cup,” Macron said, applauding the Atlas Lions’performance in their semi-final showdown with France.

Photos and videos have also made the rounds online of Macron talking to Moroccan players, including the PSG star Achraf Hakimi, following their game against the French team.

Morocco’s national team lost to France 2-0 on Wednesday, marking the widely celebrated Atlas Lions’ exit from the World Cup.

King Mohammed VI held a phone call with Macron to extend his congratulations to France on winning the highly anticipated semi-final game.

The Atlas Lions have to play another football match against Croatia to compete for third place.

Despite losing to France, the Moroccan national team’s performance was highly appreciated and welcomed by millions of fans across the world.

Several heads of states and officials notably thanked Morocco’s national team for their inspiring tournament and their spirited performance against France.

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden announced that he watched the match with Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch on the sidelines of the Africa-US Summit.

“No matter who you’re rooting for, it was remarkable to watch how much this team [Morocco] has been able to achieve,” Biden wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.
