Former England international, Wayne Rooney, has picked Argentina captain Lionel Messi as the best footballer of all time.
Rooney said after Messi led Argentina to beat Croatia 3-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-final tie on Tuesday night in Qatar.
Recall that Messi scored a penalty and also provided an assist for Julian Alvarez’s second and Argentina’s third of the night against Croatia.
In a tweet via his Twitter account on Wednesday morning, Rooney said his opinion that Messi is the ‘best footballer of all time’ has not changed.
The Manchester United legend, who has always been a big fan of the Paris Saint-Germain forward, once again proclaimed that the 35-year-old is the best ever by retweeting his old comments about him.
He wrote: “Nothing has changed.”
Rooney’s old comment, dated March 7, 2012, says: “Messi is a joke. For me the best ever.”
Messi will now hope to lead Argentina to victory when they face either Morocco or France in the World Cup final at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.
