Zinedine Zidane is believed to be the Glazers’ ideal appointment, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expected to be sacked as Manchester United manager.
But the Frenchman’s wife, Veronique, is against him moving to the club.
According to the UK Times, Veronique does not want to live in England.
Zidane has been out of a job since he left Real Madrid in the summer but was believed to be learning English in a bid to work in the Premier League.
However, his wife would need convincing if he is to replace under-fire Solskjaer at Old Trafford
If United do not get Zidane, they could turn to Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino or Ajax boss, Erik ten Hag.
Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, will also be considered for the role.
