Man Utd vs Villarreal: Solskjaer decides goalkeeper to start Europa League final

David De Gea seems to have won Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s heart and will start in goal for Manchester United against Villarreal in the Europa League final next Wednesday, according to MEN.

The Spaniard and team-mate Dean Henderson have started four games each since United dropped into the competition from the Champions League group stage.

But De Gea appears to have won the race to feature in the final in Gdansk, having featured in the quarter-finals against Granada and semi-finals against Roma.

Despite United’s 3-2 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico that saw them progress 8-5 on aggregate, De Gea made a number of crucial saves that have strengthened his case to start the Villarreal clash.

It will come as a blow to Henderson, who had featured in the earlier rounds against Real Sociedad and AC Milan.

Henderson has since been called into starting XI for Premier League fixtures, while De Gea has been getting his chances in Europe.

While De Gea has impressed, Henderson has struggled and he was recently criticised for his poor positioning during the 4-2 defeat by Liverpool last week.
