#1 HOT AIR BALLOON FAIL
London floor-fitter Lefkos Hajji concealed a $10,000 engagement ring inside a helium balloon, thinking she’d pop the balloon — and he’d pop the question. But as he left the store where he purchased the balloon, a gust of wind pulled the balloon from his hands and far, far out of reach. Hajji then spent two hours in his car trying to chase and find the balloon, ultimately failing. His bride to be refused to speak to him until she got a new ring.
#2 CRACK IS WACK
Teacher Don Walling planned to propose to his girlfriend, Gina Pellicani, on the Brooklyn Bridge’s while his family watched. But after Pellicani said yes, he dropped the ring through a crack in the bridge and directly into traffic below, where he immediately ran to go retrieve it. Somehow he actually did, though it was pretty banged up. Walling will probably think twice about ever staging romantic antics on a bridge again.
#3 CALL OF WEDDING DUTY
Chad Johnson proposed to girlfriend and Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada and as she tells it: “I wish I had a really romantic story to tell you…A jeweler came to the house, had a few rings. He had my ring in a separate box… (Chad) had a headset on and he was like, ‘You like it?’ and I was like, ‘Yep’ and I put it on and he goes, ‘Okay cool,’ and he started playing Call of Duty.” A month after the 2012 wedding Johnson was arrested for domestic battery and a month after that — they divorced.
#4 FUQING IDIOT
Mr Chen, of Xinyan Town, Fuqing City, was inspired by the idea of people hiding rings in cakes, so he did just that. His girlfriend fainted when he got down on one kneebut only because she’d just swallowed the ring. Doctors later used a catheter to retrieve the ring from her stomach and Wen said yes.
A young man in Plattling, Germany decided to string 50 paper lanterns in the sky as his way of proposing to his girlfriend. This would’ve been fine, if several people hadn’t called the police saying they thought they were UFOs. No one was abducted and the woman reportedly said yes.
#6 SWEPT OFF HER FEET FOREVER?
Scott Napper took 22-year-old Leafil Alforque to Proposal Rock near Neskowin Beach because, well, that’s where you do that. Unfortunately, the tide had receded around Proposal Rock when the couple began to walk to it and a wave about 3 feet high suddenly came toward them. By the time he turned to find his girlfriend, who was only 4-foot-11 and 93 pounds, she had been caught by the tide and was NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN. Talk about trust issues.
#7 FROSTY THE DUMBMAN
Reed Harris asked Kaitlin Whipple to marry him in a Wendy’s, so strike one. Then he hid the ring in her Frosty milkshake, so strike two. Then he invited her and her friends to chug down the chilling beverage and she — yup — swallowed the ring. Did the ring eventually “turn up”? Yes. The two are set to get married. Who knows why.
