Arsenal vs Fulham: Arteta warns players not to put ‘eggs in one basket’

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has warned his players that it would be a “big mistake” to focus all their efforts on the Europa League.

Ahead of Sunday’s league fixture against Fulham at home, Arteta insists there is a lot to play for in the Premier League.

The Gunners are in the semi-final of the Europa League, following their 4-0 win at Slavia Prague on Thursday.

The 5-1 aggregate victory over the Czech outfit, sets up a last-four meeting with Villarreal.

If they win the competition, Arsenal will qualify for the Champions League, which would be a massive boost after a difficult season.

It would be hard for the Gunners to get Champions League qualification through the Premier League, as they are 10 points behind fourth-placed West Ham with seven games to play.

But Arteta is confident there is a lot to play for domestically, even if there is a temptation to focus their efforts purely on winning in Europe.

“Putting our eggs in one basket would be a big mistake.

“I love that phrase. My dad has always told me that since I was 15 years old. We cannot do that.

“The League is really important — there are a lot of points to play for and there have been a lot of changes in recent weeks in terms of the table.

“We want to be involved right up until the last match and the way to do it is to put a run together ourselves,” Arteta said.
