Femi Adesina, a presidential aide has denied that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration promised to make one naira become equivalent to one dollar at any point in time.
Adesina stated that the claims suggesting that President Muhammadu Buhari made such a promise are false.
“It does not exist, it is fake, it is false, it is apocryphal, and it doesn’t exist,” he said.
Adesina stated this while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
Documentary evidence of President Buhari promising to make the naira at par in value with the US dollar may not be out there, but in a March 23, 2015 rally in Owerri, precisely at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, in the Imo State capital, candidate Buhari of the APC reportedly said he would ensure that the Nigerian currency was equal to the dollar in value if voted into office, adding: “It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s economy.’’
