House are currently working on drafting legislation proposed by President that would have the IRS send recurring monthly payments to American families to expand the child tax credit.

According to CNN, a source familiar with the matter confirmed that one draft of the proposal includes $300 monthly checks per child under the age of 6 and $250 for each child 6 to 17.

This proposal would give parents $3,000 per year for each child between the ages of 6 to 17 and $3,600 for each child under age 6.

That same source also confirmed to CNN that House Ways and Means Committee Chair Richard Neal of Massachusetts is directly involved in the effort to write the child tax credit expansion and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, who is the House Appropriations Committee Chair.

Eligibility for the benefit would be similar to the stimulus checks and based on family income from the prior tax year and phased out at a certain income level.
